We've never really understood the premise of at-home theater ticket buying unless you're trying to beat the crowd to a hot showing. Is it really
that much more convenient to wait in line to present a Fandango confirmation compared to waiting in line to buy tickets? For
DISH Network subscribers who've got it all figured out, you'll be elated to know that a new Fandango iTV application has just arrived to provide on-couch ticket ordering. Best of all, the functionality isn't set-top-box specific; anyone who tunes to channel 100 will have the option to buy, and all you have to do is show the credit card at the cinema to gain entrance. You can go ahead and color us underwhelmed and out of the loop simultaneously if you choose.

I don't actually use these types of services but the theater I would normally go to has a double enter in the the first entry are ticket sales with multiple spots to buy tickets then everyone is funneled through one entry point into the theater where they take your ticket. If you have advanced tickets you can skip the first line all together and go directly into the theater. So yes it would save time if the ticket purchase lines were very long.

I don't know about anybody else but I love it. When I do go to the theater (admittedly not often with prices like they are for tickets) I will gladly spend the extra money to get the tickets reserved. There are kiosks as well where you slide the card you ordered it on into the machine and get your tickets in 5-10 seconds. The 30 - 45 seconds I spend on that easily beats waiting 5-10 minutes in line for a good movie. Plus knowing beforehand that its reserved? Done deal.

At the theater near me there are separate kiosks in the lobby to pick up pre-ordered tickets. There has never been a line for the kiosks whenever I have gone.

Pre-ordering tickets may not be a big deal if you plan to get the the theater early, or you know the show that you are going to won't sell out, but otherwise it is ABSOLUTELY the way to go for me.
Personally, the wife and I rarely get to go out to the movies, but when we do, we have to get a baby sitter, and we most likely go out to dinner beforehand. And we've got a schedule to get back home at a certain time to relieve the baby sitter. So, knowing that we've got our movie tickets reserved in advance for the exact showing that we want takes the pressure off us having to rush through dinner to get in line for tickets.

I always buy my tickets online.
No worries about how long the line is, whether the show will be sold out, etc.
That said, I don't know that I need an option to do so on my TV. But if this is a sign of things to come, I hope it's a success.
