DISH's SlingLoaded ViP 922 / 822 DVR hits the FCC
Up for an investigation? We've got a curious case going on with a recent FCC filing, which sees the user manual of the recently unveiled DuoDVR ViP 922 (yeah, the SlingLoaded one) alongside images of a heretofore unseen ViP 822 DVR. Curiously, the actual FCC label corresponds with the "922," through the logo on the pictured Sling DVR definitely shows "822." So, is this just the typical step a device takes before it hits shelves in America, or is this a DVR we've never seen before? Something tells us it's far less exciting than our imaginations are leading us to believe.

I wonder if it would be possible to convice Dish Network to upgrade my 722 to a 922 once it hits the market.
FarmerBob @ Mar 14th 2009 1:09AM
I upgraded to TurboHD last September and when I called to upgrade my 625 to a 722k and check about upgrading my 722 to a 922 a week ago, I was told no on both. I would have to wait until my two year commitment for the Turbo and 722 to elapse. I mentioned that when was called and solicited the upgrade I told them that I wanted to wait for the new gear and was told that I could upgrade what I wanted to then and go the next step in the Spring. The TSR I was speaking with recommended, in a whisper, said that I should go to eBay and buy a 722k and the 922 and that would be the only way to upgrade anytime soon.
When all the gear is out and readily available I'll call my ExecTSR and discuss the circumstance under which I upgraded, which "should" be notated in my account (since 1995 and an ex-employee) and this last call and see what happens. They usually do the right thing. Hopefully that will still hold true.

Is it possible that the 822 and 922 will be the same with the exception of the Sling addition?
Maybe they'll add an S on the end of the two of them.. and still sell DVRs without Sling.
All i know is that i want one of these.
One of the internal FCC photos has WD 1TB written on it. I'll assume this is a western digital 1TB drive inside?

The 822 was the original name of the 922 product (actually, 722S->822->922).

it is likely that the 822 wil be the model that dish network uses, and that 922 will be the one that other companies, cable, tecos use. I hope and pray that it is dlna compliant, if nit that I will just stick with my
722 and get a ps3

Have you ever seen any Dish Network receivers that were dnla compliant? I understand that one of the major downfalls to the 922 and the sling technology is that they are not designed to be a two way bridging media network .. more of a one way through slings website only way to watch shows on your computer that you currently subscribe to through Dish Network on your computers web browser. If they had put more thought into designing a new receiver, what would have been much more useful would ave been to be able to control your computer on your TV through that box. With the new touchpad remote and a VNC (virtual network connection) or remote desktop application back end we could have been sitting on the couch surfing the web watching YouTube videos or checking our email. The 722 and 922 both do currently have the Video on Demand features and with a broadband connection could have an offering similar to Netflix if they spent more time upgrading that awful VOD interface. Coincidently 922 is 'about' what Dish Network reported in millions as profit for last year .. not bad considering the economy .. if they would just spend a little bit of it upgrading their receivers software they could do even better this year.

I just had DishNetwork out servicing my sytem the other day.The tech told me that the 922 with the built in Sling is actually an old model receiver (with new number now)that he said was the worst programmable box they have had to ever deal with.He said it is a piece of xxxx ad that you should not touch it. It was unreliable and difficulty to work properly.

...which is why you can't trust a GD thing that an installer/technician says. Or a CSR in India, for that matter. An installer told me a year ago that the 61.5W satellite was going to be shut down mid-year. Turns out that the 61.5W bird is the CENTERPIECE for the Dish "Eastern Arc" service. If you want truth about gear, go to an enthusiast site, like SatelliteGuys.us, which has information up to and including the Broadcom chipset that the 722K and 922 are based on (hint: it's not the same board that's in the 622 and 722).

Which Dish DVR can record 3 programs at the same time?
CowboyDren @ Mar 29th 2009 2:25PM
The Dish DVR 622, 722, and 722K can all record at least two satellite feeds and one over-the-air antenna feed (722K has two OTA tuners).
Ryan @ May 11th 2009 6:36PM
If you get the OTA module for the 722k you can record 2 over-the-air feeds as well as 2 sat feeds from what I hear. I I have a 722k but I didn't want to pay for the $30 OTA module when I get my locals in HD through DISH. I work for Echostar/Dish so any questions I could prob help with the exception of the new 822/922, they won't give us specs for another week, its due June 1st
