Time Warner spills details on TWC spinoff
This won't affect the most of you one single bit, but for those that have a vested interested in either Time Warner, Inc. or Time Warner Cable, the details of the spinoff are now public. The tax-free separation of TWC from Time Warner will involve a dividend distribution of all of the Time Warner Cable common stock held by Time Warner to Time Warner stockholders; said distribution will be made on March 27th to Time Warner stockholders of record at 8PM on March 12th. Time Warner Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bewkes noted that he was "confident that this separation would benefit Time Warner and Time Warner Cable stockholders," suggesting that the move would enable each entity to be "better positioned to compete, with capital structures more suited to their respective needs as well as greater operational, financial and strategic flexibility." Maybe TWC will get around to adding a few more HD channels now that daddy isn't looking over its shoulder 24/7, but we wouldn't bet the farm on it.

Isn't this supposed to be where you disclose that Engadget is a part of the TimeWarner family?

That's covered in the article:
"EngadgetHD will be rebranded as Warner-Blu-ray. The new division will now be headed by Darren Murph. Reporting for him will be Ben Drawbaugh, who will head up the Brave Face Subdivision, which will promote market share information, and a TBA, who will be taking over Murph's previous role running the Toshiba Monitoring Subdivision. Warner hopes that the new structure and rebranding will guarantee that Blu-ray sales reach parity with DVD, just like Sony promised they would do last year."

Maybe they can finally increase internet speeds and QOS.

How about some DOCSIS 3.0 in Dallas so I can get faster broadband (since I can't get FIOS).

In other words, that's Wall Street Speak for "This combination should have never happened, we just got caught up in the mergers and acquisition "me too-ism" of the previous century. Now we'll actually be able to do things without a bunch of know-nothings getting in the way.

TWC needs to bring teh faster interwebs to muh home. 6 Mbps / 1 Mbps is sooo 2001, also for TWC customers in the Kentucky area, they need to upgrade their DNS server. I tried using the default they have and it didn't resolve names at all fast enough. The connection seemed slow and unresponsive. Suddenly I switch to OpenDNS and bam! The speed at which the connection operates seems like it should (faster domain resolution). They should really take a page from Insight and offer 20/10 or 20/20 packages, not to mention the network stability that Insight has.
