Blockbuster selling oodles of HD DVDs for $7.99 a pop
Missed out on those fire sales held right after HD DVD's funeral, did you? Fret not, as Blockbuster is looking to make the most of your HD DVD player purchase. As of now, the rental outfit is selling over 300 HD DVD titles at just $7.99 each, which gives you a perfect excuse to blow that Christmas cash before 2008 is even over. In related news, Frys is offering up an Xbox 360 HD DVD player along with HD DVD box sets of Heroes: Season One and Battlestar Galactica: Season One for just $49.99. What? Is this serious? There are sites like inetvideo.com that have been selling Season 1 HDDVD of BG for $18 - not too mention there's a seller on Amazon (sold through Amazon which means free freight for orders >$25) that has Season one of Heroes on HDDVD for $15 and $18 for BG.....$50 is a rip-off.....keep moving folks, nothing to see here...

Using your pricing of Heroes for $15 and BG for $18, that means the HD DVD player for the Xbox 360 comes in at $17. That's clearly the best price I've ever seen for one of these.
If I didn't already own the first season of Heroes, I would buy this. I already have the HD DVD add-on also, but this would make a great backup. Plus, I'm not interested in BG. Oh well.

DOH! read that post too quickly - checked out BB - the one HDDVD I clicked on had it listed for $7.99 but it was 'used' and knowing how vulnerable HDDVD's are to scratches I would not buy a used HDDVD.

I don't know the return policy - I closed the tab in my browser once I spied that. They might have 'new' for sale but I'd be REALLY surprised.

If you've already invested in a substantial HD-DVD library, $50 for a backup player might not be a bad deal. (woot.com has had a stand alone HD-DVD player a couple times for ~$50.) The included TV series packages are decent for the total package price--or you could always sell them off again.

i was thinking about buying the LG blu ray burner for my pc, so i can archive a lot of the stuff i have on my comp...but unfortunately it has HD DVD rom capabilities, which i frankly feel like i'm paying for, and would never use (though the player i was looking @ w/ 6x BD-R capabilities, is still one of the best, and least expensive on the market)...
anyways, enough w/ the background. Even if i bought that drive, there's still no way that i'd ever buy the movies at 8 bucks a pop. So i could ONLY play them in my computer. or an hd dvd drive. Eh, if they dropped it to maybe a dollar or two, maybe i could justify being constrained to its obvious limitations. Maybe its because i'm too cheap to justify spending that much on a "dead tech"

I have 3 HDDVD players (bought them on purpose) and I have an XBOX 360 but don't want the 'add-on' player. I continue to buy HDDVDs from the places listed in my original post ($8 for an HD disc is well worth the money even if it's 'dead tech' I can still play it in either room in my house).

I'm surprised it took them so long. Maybe they found a missing warehouse full of them. Two UK operations HMV & Play.com cleared out their stock quite some time ago for prices as low as £2.99

My local Fry's Electronics has been trying to dump their inventory of HD DVD's for $7 and $11 for the past 5-6 months now. They still have not found sufficient buyers for the inventory to run dry.

Not bad, but inetvideo is still the place to go. I just bought like 16 hd-dvds and 2 blu-rays for a total of 88 bucks with free shipping. All brand new and in working condition. The only problem with one is that World Trade Center 2 disc set had a broken middle push button and so the special features disc was slightly scratched but other than that its great. Why pay 12-19 bucks for blu-ray versions when, if you were an hd-dvd adopter, you could get the HD-DVD version for 3 bucks.
