Missed your opportunity to score a low-cost Blu-ray player on
Black Friday? Worried senseless about how you're ever going to get a BD deck for that special someone at a price you can stomach? Chill, please -- you're making us all anxious around here. As you can see above, Target is planning to slash the price on the
Olevia BD-100 starting Sunday to a totally delicious $149.99. Granted, the cut is slated to be for "a limited time" only, but that's all the time you need to get in, right?

I knew a girl once named Olevia.

God, am I finicky or what?
At the exact time that BD hit my price point, I have decided that I will settle for no less than 2.0.
Go figure...

Trust me, BD-Live is not worth it. Find your best player and if BD-Live is supported, fine but don't base your choice on whether or not this turd of a feature is supported...
Andy @ Dec 19th 2008 3:30PM
Dont wait for 2.0. Get a cheap 1.1 if you want one now, and then you can always get a 2.0 next fall when most movies will actually have those features implemented and players will be 99 or less.

i agree ive been in the bluray game for over a year and BD Live is worthless ... u download crappy games and tech that seems ripped from 1998

Sony has had the sony350 on sale for $149 before at sonystyle (and that was without signing up for a cc). It can be upgraded to 2.0

IMO profile 2.0 is extremely important, it's a way of future proofing your purchase for unknown changes that may happen in the future.

Is this a good player?
squiggleslash @ Dec 20th 2008 4:30PM
Not really. It's another out-of-date player being cleared out. As pretty much all the sub-$200 BD players are.
This isn't news. News will be when a sub-$100 BD player is announced (not a BD announced to have a price cut to $100) by a major manufacturer.

I don't know how great these are, but the company claimed bankruptcy not long ago and not sure how much time and effort they put into quality...
Thomas @ Dec 19th 2008 8:09PM
I would be a little worried then. BD is still in a early face where there can be bugs in the firmware. I wonder who will deliver updates if the company is bankrupt.
WebDev511 @ Dec 19th 2008 3:18PM
I'm not interested in a stand alone that doesn't have a network port on it. BD-Live or not, I'd like the option of Netflix streaming.

If you want one, you should go buy it now at whatever the higher price is. Then when the sale starts and everyone is acting like a barbarian and trampling each other to get one, you can just go up to customer service and get a price "adjustment". Basically you are returning it and buying it at the then current price. But they won't make you go through that. They have a policy of 'price protection' where if the price of a product you buy goes down within the return period they will refund you the difference. That's what I would do if I wanted one at this price. The only thing that may trip you up is if they don't put these out on the store shelves until the sale. But you can probably find out today by calling the store before driving over.
Just a helpful hint. Good hunting guys! :-)

Actually, the price protection is for 14 days only at Target. I bought two toys for my toddler. One toy was $60 and the other was $50. About 15 days later, we got a coupon book from Target that had $10 off coupons for each of the two toys. I went to get a price adjustment and they said that they cannot do it since it is after 14 days. So, I went and bought the two toys using my coupon and then came right to customer service and returned them using my old receipt. I even told them why I am doing it. They did not have any problems with that!!! Bureacrazy!
