Comcast adds The Weather Channel HD in Houston, Texas
Typically, we can count on Comcast to bring along at least three newcomers whenever it decides to bulk up an HD lineup, but for whatever reason, it decided to drop just a single, lonely high-definition station on the residents of Houston this week. For those too lazy to check the forecast online, The Weather Channel HD is now showing on slot 289. Who knows -- maybe this is just the calm before the proverbial storm.[Thanks, Stacey and Brandon]

"Commucast" is such a joke. I am beginning to think the whole company is just an elaborate scam. Their HD DVRs, at least in the Houston area, haven't been updated since at least '03 or so and their service is terrible. I dumped them a year ago for DirecTV and couldn't be more thankful. Recently dumped their cable internet service (also a joke with those shoddy modems they provide), and am now using Uverse for internet and couldn't be happier. It is hilarious to see the number of "2wire" wireless connections available in my apartment complex increasing by the day from everyone switching to Uverse. DirecTV dishes are popping up everywhere as well. And what does Comcast do? Increase their crappy advertisements! They must be the only ones on the planet that don't realize "Comcastic" carries a negative connotation.

I must agree with you also from the previous post as well. This would have been the first HD channel they have added since October 07. Their lineup in the Houston area sucks bigtime. U-Verse alone is beating them 2-1 in linear channel wise.
Their commercials are so stupid as well. If they spent all the money that they spend on advertising to upgrade the system here, they might do alot better as well. Their system overall sucks 100%!

Ugh, those commercials piss me off.. I don't see how they can get away saying they have the most HD channels any where when they clearly don't. My wife signed us up for a Comcast 2 year plan so we can't get out of it without paying a penalty and I soo want to switch to U-verse. They have a ton of HD channels it's crazy. I long for more HD channels.. man I literally stood up and shouted "Sweet baby Jesus we got the weather channel in HD!!!" when I noticed it in the line up yesterday.. it shouldn't be that bad.

Cool! Now give me Comedy Central HD, Spike HD, FX HD and I will be happy. Yes, you guys are right, comcast is lackin on HD now but I am assuming that by or after the digital transition they will add a bunch more. In the mean time they better hope that everyone hasn't switched to AT&T by then...

It is quite depressing to come on here and see headlines similar to "Comcast Adds 13 HD Channels In Anywhere But Houston". I mean everyday it seems some other city is getting upgrades and Houston is left on the backburner. And now we have the Weather Channel. I guess it's something. Well, I hope the post above is correct and there is more to come after the switch, but I'm dangerously close to switching providers before then.

This is the only channel i am looking forward to in HD, but me waiting for this channel for so long is killing me every second. while Boston and some other Metros have this i am just left in the dust. :(

I spoke with a Executive that is tuned into the happenings with new HD content for the Houston area and says that the takeover from Time Warner has been the main problem with adding channels in the Houston area. The 2nd problem has been that all resources have been at work rebuilding alot of the system after the Hurricane destroyed some of the system. While they are rebuilding these areas, they are also stringing Fiber To The Home! Believe it or not, they are going to try and compete with AT&T on this note as much as they can.
Honestly, I already switched to U-verse and have not had 1 problem from day 1 either with their service. They are about to have at or over 100 HD Linear Channels available to everyone of their subscribers.
I truly do hope that Comcast does get their act together really soon for alot of people's sake since U-verse is not available everywhere in the Houston area.
