Tweeter site egregiously hacked as company bows out
Not that we haven't seen websites hacked in good fun before, but this is downright disturbing. Just hours after getting word that the many faces of Tweeter were all fading away into the sunset (to put it nicely), an apparently disgruntled employee has showcased his / her 1337 hax0r skills by totally transforming Tweeter.com's main page. Let's just say it's less than becoming (and the block censor is ours), but the full screen grab is down below if you care to indulge. Hey, if you're going to burn a bridge, you might as well leave it in ruins, right?
[Thanks, Jason]
Update: Fun while it lasted! Now surfing over to Tweeter.com takes you to... nowhere. Check a cached page in the gallery below for a long lasting memory.

"Hey, if you're going to burn a bridge, you might as well leave it in ruins, right?" Amen, this is hilarious.

This is deserved. Schultze and Boucher promised all the ex tweeter employees that they would receive the balance of their vacation pay and all managers a retention bonus for staying with the company until the stores closed. Then yesterday they fired everyone a week ahead of schedule and told them that if they wanted the pay they were promised (including the last week of wages) they would have to take them to court. bastards.

I agree with Dan that the employees were grossly mistreated. So were any customers who ordered merchandise and can't pick it up (according to a Boston Globe story today). Of course it's a reckless thing to hack a corporate website and I bet they'll sue the pants off the hackers if they can track them down....but then again, corporate malfeasance is reckless, too.

This is nothing... A few years back I worked for a company called Vanstar, who was bought out by Inacom. Turns out Inacom only bought them to make their books look better, which didn't help and they closed one Friday afternoon. We all got emails (at whatever client site we were at) saying to call this 800 number for 'an important announcement'. It said that Inacom was closed and we (all 5,000 of us) were fired on the spot. Never got another dime out of them for the last two weeks salary, vacation etc.
Welcome to the corporate economy and mentality. This is how it works now.
