Is the freedom of creating your own case the only advantage? In that case, can you order the regular one and then play with the mobo as you please. I'm curious.

Rob

Comments on Popcorn Hour's B-110 HTPC motherboard gets pictured, previewed

Rob, I think the purpose of the B-110 is that you get to put it in something that suits your taste. It can also accomodate more hard drives, (two SATA and presumably two IDE, as well as USB drives and perhipherals like wifi sticks).

Of course, the 7.1 sound would have made it brilliant, becuase a lot of people would find that useful, and it's not easy to fit on the other Popcorn Hour devices.

ian9outof10

Comments on Popcorn Hour's B-110 HTPC motherboard gets pictured, previewed

This motherboard seems pretty expensive ($199 is the suggested retail). For about the same price, if you keep an eye out for good prices, you could get an AMD 780G chipset motherboard which has on-board 1080p HD-compatible graphics , an Athlon 64 X2 dual core 5400 (or thereabouts) processor, nice quiet low profile fan like a Scythe, and a couple of GB of memory. I have this type of setup and it handles all things up through 1080p quite nicely (cost me $224 shipped a couple of months ago, and I have a 5000, not a 5400 processor).

Ghoti

Comments on Popcorn Hour's B-110 HTPC motherboard gets pictured, previewed

And how much power does your setup consume compared to the Popcorn hour ?
I have setup a few media centers myself and nothing beats the smoothness and clarity of the Popcorn Hour products, and it consumes only about 10 watts...

G3rt

Comments on Popcorn Hour's B-110 HTPC motherboard gets pictured, previewed

Forgive me if this is utterly ridiculous but why not put a Atom/Nano processor with a couple of gigs of memory on this thing, and just let the Sigma processor handle the video and audio, so you can get a better OS then the one that was on the original PCH. It wont be that much more expensive and would really make an ideal HTPC. Also can they not activate the 7.1 analogue with future firmware updates? Otherwise what's the point?!

Chak

Comments on Popcorn Hour's B-110 HTPC motherboard gets pictured, previewed

What an awful review. Did you guys read the article, and if so why did you bother linking to it?

I didn't see a single pic of the whole motherboard that would have told me 2 dozen crucial facts about it, nor did they mention them in the review. They obviously didn't attempt to build and use the thing, and have no understanding of what the issues are that they need to cover.

What is the processor type, memory type, what expansion slots does it have? Which power connector does it use?

How does it perform with Media Center or MythTV? Does it support 1080p24 or 1080p60 on all outputs? How are the drivers? Is the HDMI output (or driver) calibrated for PC monitors or television? Does the chipset accelerate h.264 decoding? Are there audio sync issues? etc etc.

God I hate reviews like that. Cnet gets all this traffic for the most utterly useless content.

clara

Comments on Popcorn Hour's B-110 HTPC motherboard gets pictured, previewed

Who needs reviewers to tell us this…

http://www.popcornhour.com/onlinestore/index.php?pluginoption=catalog&task=info&item_id=7&main_id=0&category_id=

AlphaTeam

Comments on Popcorn Hour's B-110 HTPC motherboard gets pictured, previewed

You, sir, clearly don't know what a review is.
