This is excellent news, because it means that Blu-ray will be less replication constrained during the 2008 holiday season than initially feared. I'm hoping they will need every bit of that extra capacity when the big Blu-ray push begins in the fall.

Actually, they're probably shipping these units out the door as fast as they're able to produce them.
This is not a large company, and even if it were, these things take a lot of labor to produce.

That is the stupidest argument I have ever heard. A Single layer BD disc holds more data than a dual layer DVD yet you are comparing the write times of the two? Obviously the DVD's will write faster, its common sense.. then again apparently not as you are arguing the point. Can these "home business" replicators do 25GB's in 4 secs? No, they are doing 9.. not even half of what the BD ones are doing. You can argue things, but this, is unarguable. More data takes more time. How long did the original DVD producers take to do a mere 4.5GB's?

You do realize this isn't a burner right? This creates stamped/molded disks. 6 seconds to mold, cool, metallize, wet-emboss, lacquer and UV cure a dual layer disk is fairly impressive. Their DVD9 replicators take 2.3 seconds, so while it takes just under 3 times as long, they still can output fairly well. Also realize this includes
You can believe what you want about the format. Maybe DVD will hang around for the next 10-20 years, maybe BR will eventually takes its place, who knows. But making completely irrelevant comparisons between a home duplicator (which is a multi-function burner) and a manufacturing device which works on a completely different scale just makes you look like a raving monkey.

As usual Nfinity spouts a bunch of lies. Singulus have orders for 31 machines this half year alone. As for the specs of the machine, those 31 machines even with 50% downtime would be capable of pushing out nearly 1/4 million DL disks every day.

maybe im being stupid but what is the benifit of making discs with massive machines compared to doing it at home on a computer obviously professional is going to be way better but how much better benefit do u get?

A burner and a stamper use two different technologies. This machine is a stamper.
In a burner, the laser is slightly stronger than a reader and is capable of melting a special coating on the inside of a Recordable disk.
The "pits" created on a DVDR or BDR are different than those of stamped disk. This is why many older DVD players would not play burned DVDs.
Also the life of a burned disk can be counted in years but a stamped disk is generally considered to be decades. However, we do not yet know the lifespan of blu-ray disks.
Stamped disks also have a pressed/screened finish on one side. This is not only for marketing purposes but helps put a protective backing on the disk.

i really wish there were terms and conditions for signing up and posting on this board. then we could effectively make a push to ban nfinity. has anyone EVER seen him make a post on engadget, engadghet hd, joystiq, autoblog or any of the other networks which wasn't anti blu-ray and/or pro hd-dvd/dvd. to say its gotten old would be an understatement, he has become nothing more than a rebel rouser who is quick to get good topics off topic in a big hurry. instead of talking about a topic, we always talk about how stupid he is. please engadget...bring on the TOS so we can finally ban his IP

BR is the HD radio of the video world.
Those orders for industrial presses haven’t translated into a lower disc price for the consumer or greater sales for Blu-Gay movies as a matter of fact the price went up $10 after the format war was “won”. It took BR Two years to release 526 non-selling titles, SDVD had released 4000 titles within it’s first two years. SDVD’s first title was released in the US March 1997. Not to mention BR sales are very poor most BR advocate point to the PS3 as their savior but there is evidence that while the game attach rate is 5 per unit the movie attach rate is less than 1. One movie per player!?!?!? That better be one hell of good movie!
The game attach rate for the PS3 system is comparable to the other systems on the market while the BR movie attach rate is less than one per player!
