Question for you true videophiles out there: Why do plasma TV manufacturers even bother listing the contrast ratio? Since they're based on CRT technology, which I understand to have an "infinite" contrast ratio, I've always thought the numbers game was only relevant for LCDs.
Any clarification would be helpful. I'm thinking of going back to plasma because I miss the picture I used to get with tube HDTVs.

The reason they talk about contrast ratios with plasmas is because each pixel has to be "pre-charged" before it can be lit because they do not have a fast enough refresh rate.
I'm going to have to go up to the local Club next month to check that one out! < 1700 for a 50inch 1080p, I'll need to really see it before I consider it, but that is a pretty good price!!

The 50" is over 1700.. $1899 I think.. but btw, B&H has the Samsung 50" 1080p for $1749... and I would think the high end Samsung model would be better than the Vizio, just based on reputation.

Take a look at the Press Release, the 47" LCD is the $1899, the 50" plasma is $1699. (I know, I read the post and was like...huh? but then read the release, and it's correct.)

What do you folks think of the Smoth Motion technlogy in LCD versus the REON HQV of Plasma? I'm sure everyone knows the pros and cons of Plasma versus LCD but what would sway you to get the 50" plasma over the 47" LCD?

plasma can display color much better. a lot of 120hz panels do help with motion but often still suffer from judder. Some people and videophiles complain that motion enhancement takes away from true cinematic experience. From personal experience, I prefer plasma. The reflection does bother me some but not enough to sway me to LCD. At work we had Meet the Robinsons on bluray hooked up to an XBR4 and it was amazing. That was before we popped the movie into the Panny pz80u next to it did we realize how much better plasmas were than LCD's for movie watching. The motion was so much more fluid and the colors appeared much more bold. The XBR was still great and would be a fine choice if you've never seen it on a good plasma. =) However, if I needed for a living room with a lot of ambient light, the xbr4 would probably be the best option out there. Semigloss panel with a matte bezel.
