Best Buy Trade-in Center HD DVD prices posted
So what's your remnant of a format war gone by worth? Best Buy has updated its Trade-In Center website with prices for HD DVD players and movies, and quite frankly you're probably better off just keeping it. Prices for players are highest for combo players, like the BH-200 ($285*) and BD-UP5000 ($255), then for players equipped with high end scalers for DVD upconverting like the HD-XA2 ($165) then everything else like the Xbox 360 add-on ($21) or HD-A3 ($36). Movies (along with a player, not by themselves) net less than $3 each. Of course, there's always value in a fresh start so go ahead and check it out for yourself.*All prices assume excellent condition with all cables & manuals

1) Why would they care about condition?
2) Why not just sell on e-bay? God knows you can get better for an XA2 than $165! And the BD-UP5K is a steal for $250, if only as a blu-ray player.

Their pricing is a joke.
For a player I paid $200 for (granted its hardly worth that now that the format is dead) they are offering $26 in pristine condition.
I think I'll keep it as an up converting player.
Hell... scrap metal is worth more than that.

Even though I only paid $50 for my Xbox add-on, I would not give it to Best Buy for $21. They're out of their minds. But, I already see plenty of people foolishly doing it though, forgetting that the thing also upconverts their SD-DVD quite nicely, and that the movies are not going to go "up in smoke." Oh well. I'll just wait for the $50 BB gift card that more than likely won't materialize.

The 360 will upconvert DVDs without the add-on (assuming you hook it up via VGA or HDMI)

Big Sam, I agree with you.
I'm fine with my add-on attached to my pc. I was referring to people who own stand alone units.

$3 for a movie? Absurd, especially if the movie is a combo disc.
Wilson @ Mar 22nd 2008 5:33PM
Hey, why are you all complaining? They don't even have to offer this, at least it's something. Quit thinking that this is some entitlement; there are some that will gladly unload their merchandise even at these prices.
Cash @ Mar 22nd 2008 7:55PM
They aren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, Mr. Wilson.

Yeah, those people would be called "morons." You could sell them on eBay for far more.

Why would anyone trade a HD DVD/Blu-Ray combo for a Blu-Ray only player? There are still many HD DVD only movies.
tony @ Mar 23rd 2008 12:24AM
ya, they will prob go aroudn and resell them on thier outlet center part of the site for like 10.00 a piece making even more profit. No thanks. just give me my 150.00 and piss off
FLskydiver @ Mar 23rd 2008 1:26AM
I'd be interested maybe in some used HD-DVD's even if they mark them up 100%. I'd pay $6 for some good discs. Where to you buy them?
Pacos @ Mar 25th 2008 4:27PM
And what exactly is Best Buy doing with all of these players/movies? I hope they are selling them...
But seriously, if any of you people are going to sell to Best Buy, you'd have to be a little crazy! I would seriously pay more for one of your players(in fact make me an offer). Looking for a spare HD DVD player...
:D
